Functions and advantages

Everything you need to know about the features and benefits of the Carbon hand: Get a Grip - Bionic hand orthosis from Bioservo need to know.

Flexibility in everyday life - function
  • The CARBONHAND® bionic hand orthosis offers new strength and endurance for weak hands.
  • It strengthens the existing grip strength and enables holding and grasping objects.
  • Sensors in the fingertips react to the slightest changes in pressure and amplify the gripping movement performed.
  • Artificial tendons are used to strengthen the existing muscles. These tendons shorten in real time and cause the fingers to bend. An object can be held forcefully with up to 20 N.
How does the carbon hand work?

The Carbon Hand (also from Bioservio) is a hand orthosis for people with Grip weakness (in case of complete functional failure of the hand, it cannot be used). It amplifies gripping movements, i.e. when the user touches an object and applies very light pressure, this pressure is multiplied by the orthosis.

There are sensors on the fingertips that are connected to artificial tendons and a small battery-powered device.

The orthosis is like a glove that covers the thumb, ring and middle fingers.

These are connected by artificial tendons to a small, battery-powered device that the user wears on a belt, for example. The gripping movement is reinforced by a contraction, i.e. shortening, of these artificial tendons.

Touch sensitivity and pressure of the sensors can be adjusted individually and for each finger via app.

Effect

The effect of Carbonhand is immediate. With an applied force of up to 20 Newtons (N) per finger, a majority of patients with limited hand strength can regain most of their hand function and resume activities and household tasks. In addition, several studies conclude that many patients enjoy a stronger grip, improved hand function and a more independent life, even when the Carbonhand is removed.

Summary:

The Carbon Hand is a revolutionary device that provides an immediate impact, especially for those with limited hand strength. With the ability to apply up to 20 Newtons (N) of force per finger, it offers impressive performance. This allows many patients to regain much of their hand function and resume activities of daily living, such as household tasks.

However, the positive effects of the Carbonhand go beyond its immediate use. Several studies have shown that patients who use this device experience long-term benefits even after removing it. They report improved grip strength, increased hand function and greater independence in everyday life.

The Carbon Hand has proven to be an effective solution to significantly improve the quality of life of people with limited hand strength. It enables patients to participate in activities that may have previously been out of reach and gives them a sense of independence and autonomy.

In addition, the Carbonhand is a technologically advanced device that impresses with its adaptability. It can be adapted to the individual needs and abilities of each user to achieve optimal results.

Overall, the Carbon Hand has a significant impact on the quality of life of people with limited hand strength. It not only provides immediate benefits in performing tasks, but also promotes long-term improvements in grip strength, hand function and independence. This innovative device has the potential to positively change the lives of many people and enable them to participate more fully in daily life.
